Favorite: Sushi Spots in Detroit
I did a blog post on my fav sushi spots in Chicago, where I used to live for two years (Chi, I miss you š), so I figured it was time to do one for the Metro Detroit area!! After all, I am a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur. I didnāt add pictures of every restaurant this time because that is just too much work, LOL. Below are the spots I frequent, in no particular order.
Sushi Samurai
Sushi Samurai is right around the corner from my dadās house, so it has alwaysssss been my go to. I probably go here the most frequently. They have the biggest variety IMO. Years ago they were caught with tax fraud (or something of the sort) and my whole extended family was flipping out that they might closeā¦ like noooooo, we must save it šclearly weāre diehard fans.
Maru
I first went to Maru in East Lansing and loved it, so when they opened one downtown I was THRILLED. Itās inside an old bank, which gives it so much character. Iām into the ambiance, too. Thatās where my post photo was taken! They have a roll called Sexy Bacon (LOL) thatās unlike any other Iāve tried.
Meāne
Me'ne was my first love. All due to the Firecracker roll. After school in middle school, my sister and I would make our dad stop EVERYDAY after school to get carry out, it was absurd. Itās still one of my absolute favorite rolls on this whole list.
Ronin
A really nice upscale sushi spot is Ronin in downtown Royal Oak. The vibe is everythingāitās such a good spot for happy hour with the girls or maybe to meet a date for drinks.
Noble Fish
Ok, Iām going to start this one out with a funny story. The first time I walked into Noble Fish, I was so terrified I walked right back out. There was literally a corner with MAYBE eight tables in the very back of the building. I was like WHY are people so obsessed with this place, it smells soo concerning (which in their defense, is because itās also an authentic Japanese grocery store & fish market) and left šI really judged a book by its cover though. They have THE freshest sushi for such a good price, too!! Itās kinda more of a take out place, but theyāre in the process of renovating so it will soon be a sit down restaurant.
Sushi Hana
Sushi Hana is somewhat of a new discovery. The have the most amazing shrimp tempura roll options š¤¤ I alway end up with like 3 rolls of slightly different variation, lol. My favorites are the Fire Cracker (not to be confused with the one above), Dancing Tuna & Haunted House.
Shiro
I went to Shiro in the fall when alllll the trees were changing colors, there were tons of red and orange leaves on the ground, and it gave off somewhat of a haunted house vibe. Itās an old 1920ās mansion that they turned into a restaurant! The interior decor really sets the mood. And the rolls are DELECTABLE. They have some really unique specialty rolls.
Adachi
Adachi is also an old home converted into a restaurant, just not a mansion. Itās in Birmingham, so itās more of a high end sushi spot! They have more Japanese cuisine other than sushi, as well.
