The Evolution of the Belt Bag
The belt bag is the new kid on the block. But can we really consider belt bags new?
What started out as the trusty fanny pack, has now evolved into something all the it girls in Hollywood consider fashionable. How many of us have used a fanny pack for festivals or tailgates? Probably more often than not. Now that they’ve revamped the fanny pack into the more prestigious belt bag, the opportunities to wear them are ENDLESS. I mean, I plan to wear my new belt bag out to way more events than just concerts and games. They’ve become a street wear staple.
There’s plenty of ways to put your spin on it—leather, nylon, multiple compartments, color, pattern, texture… the list goes on and on. Even the way you wear it! It can be worn crossbody in the front (my favorite), crossbody in the back or the traditional around the waist. I feel like it makes any look five times trendier.
My belt bag is from Zara, so it definitely didn’t break the bank. I think it’s best to start out with a more affordable one, just to get a feel for how often you will wear it. But I do have to admit, the Gucci GG Marmont is swoon worthy 🤤 I paired my studded Zara belt bag with a business casual look to bring some edge. A classic white button up with a strappy, lace bralette peeping through was the perfect opportunity for me to take a stab at this trend. I paired it with Topshop jeans (which ALERT!! The ones I’m wearing are on sale for $40 right now!!) and a vintage-inspired belt, with pointed-toe pumps. Casual, yet professional, with the perfect amount of spunk.
I also think it would look amazing with an athleisure look—a track jacket and biker shorts, plus maybe some dad shoes. Which, by the way, what do you all think of the dad shoe trend? I honestly like it, but have yet to try it out myself. I definitely think it’s a phase and can’t decide if it’s worth it to invest in a pair or not.
Anyways, I think the belt bag is here to stay this fall. It’s an effortless way to bring your outfit to the next level, while also serving some functionality. Win win in my book!
