Claw Clip Trend
I’ve been loving this rewind to the 90’s with the classic claw clip being back in style. I remember I loved styling my hair with these as a young girl, twisting my hair up and letting the top pieces fall out thinking I was the bee’s knees. I love the nostalgia that all these trends coming back bring!
How I get my hair up like this is a bit of trial and error. I usually have to attempt a couple times before I achieve the look I’m really going for. It’s nice because you can truly use any stage or style of hair— it can be curled, it can be 3 day old dirty hair, it can be your natural hair— and it still looks good! I’m going to try my best to describe to y’all how I do it.
So first, I like to leave out two pieces in the front that I know I won’t clip up. You don’t have to do this, put I like to leave a bit of a face frame. Next, I pull the hair back that I want to put up, while still leaving my part visible (I part down the middle, which I feel like works best for this look). You can use a brush or your hands, but I tend to just use my fingers because I like the messy/effortless look. So I gather my hair as if I’m putting it in a hair tie, about half way up on the back of my head. At first I was making the mistake of starting at the nape of my neck… the higher up you start, the better it looks IMO. I then twist the full length of the pony tail. This is where it’s gonna get confusing to explain, LOL. I take the twisted hair upwards and then back down. So almost like a lowercase ‘n’. Clip the claw in and that’s it! Sometimes I have to reposition the hair, or push it more upwards so you can see the hair from the front still. You don’t want it sitting too low. This would be wayyyy better explained in a video, but hopefully you get the gist!!
Th claw clips I found are really good for long, thick hair. You get a pack of 2 for $9.99! It comes with black and tortoise.
As for outfit deets, I styled my classic black claw clip with an oversized YSL sweatshirt. It’s not authentic Yves Saint Laurent, it’s from an adorable boutique that carries a lot of simple designs with designer logos on them. I wish I could remember where but I searched my whole email and cannot find it 😩 YSL doesn’t even make this exact item so it’s not a true dupe, but still embodies the chic YSL vibe I was going for. Biker shorts have been on constant repeat in my wardrobe, so I wore a simple black pair that are only $16. Shoes are the platform Converse’s that everyone is raving about, with a pair of slouchy white socks. The accessories I chose include layered gold jewelry, the Celine dupe sunglasses from Amazon, and a black shoulder bag from Mango (which goes on sale pretty frequently!). I just can’t get enough of the overall vibe this outfit brings. Effortless, simple, casual, and beyond comfortable.

If that was a bad explanation, feel free to message me 😂 I tried my best.
